How Celtics honored Bill Walton ahead of 2024 NBA Finals: Tie-dye warmups, video tribute and more

On May 27, Basketball Hall of Famer Bill Walton died, making the Celtics' conference-clinching win over the Pacers bittersweet.

Walton won a championship as Boston's sixth man in 1986 before a foot injury limited him to 10 games in 1986-87.

Although persistent injuries ended Walton's career, he won titles with the Trail Blazers, Celtics, and UCLA. Walton was the nation's best collegiate player and played as long as he could in the NBA.

As they try to win their first title since 2008, the Celtics hope to emulate Walton on and off the court.

TD Garden then held a moment of silence to remember Walton and then showed a video tribute to the big man who died.

Walton spoke about that 1986 championship squad and what it meant to wear the Celtics uniform in the video.

Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck first offered his sympathies to Walton's family following Boston's Eastern Conference title, and Thursday night's Game 1 provided the Celtics their first chance to honour Walton in front of the TD Garden crowd.
