What is canola oil?

Canola (Brassica napus L.) is a Canadian oilseed crop bred from rapeseed. “Canola” originates from “Canada” and “ola,” meaning oil. 

How is it made?

Margarine and shortening are created from canola oil, which is hydrogenated to modify its chemical structure. 

Potential downside

Canada exports the most canola oil, according to the Canola Council of Canada. Most of this oil goes to America.   

Can it harm health?

Even though canola oil is one of the oils used in the food sector the most, there aren't many long-term studies on its effects on health.

Alternative cooking oil
