5 Home Remedies for Burns

Cool water

Cool (not cold) water should be applied to mild burns for 20 minutes. Wash burned skin with gentle soap and water.

Cool compresse

A cool compress or clean damp towel relieves burn pain and swelling. Apply the compress every 5–15 minutes. Avoid cold compresses that may exacerbate the burn.

Antibiotic ointment

Antibiotic lotions and ointments prevent infections. Apply Bacitracin or Neosporin to your burn and cover with cling film or a sterile, non-fluffy bandage or towel.

Aloe vera

Aloe vera means “burn plant.” Research suggests aloe vera heals first- to second-degree burns. Aloe kills bacteria, boosts circulation, and lowers irritation.

Honey got sweeter. Honey tastes great and can heal small burns when applied topically. Honey naturally fights germs and fungi and reduces inflammation.
