6 Home Remedies for Pigmentation: How to Remove Dark Spots

There are several ways that you can treat hyperpigmentation at home. While several of the remedies we share here are anecdotal.

Apple cider vinegar

Apple cider vinegar contains acetic acid, which research shows may lighten pigmentation.

Aloe vera

A 2012 study found that aloin, a natural depigmenting ingredient in aloe vera, lightens skin and treats hyperpigmentation without side effects. 

Red onion

Red onion (Allium cepa) extract is an ingredient in some commercially available skin- and scar-lightening creams. 

Green tea extract

Green tea extract may depigment skin, according to research. Use green tea extract as indicated.  

Black tea water

The 2011 study indicated that black tea water lightened dark blotches on guinea pigs. Black tea water was applied twice daily, six days a week for four weeks.
